WHAT IS A POSE ROUTINE IN A BODYBUILDING COMPETITION?

The posing routine in a bodybuilding competition is a process where competitors perform specific poses to best showcase their muscle development and aesthetics. These poses are standardized for judges to evaluate. Here is a typical bodybuilding competition posing routine and basic poses:

Mandatory Poses

Mandatory poses are poses that all competitors must perform in a specific order. These poses are:

  1. Front Double Biceps:

    • Stand, open both arms to the sides, and flex your biceps by bending your elbows.
  2. Front Lat Spread:

    • Stand with your feet shoulder-width apart, spread your arms to the sides to display your latissimus dorsi (lats) muscles.
  3. Back Double Biceps:

    • Turn your back to the judges, show your legs while simultaneously displaying your biceps and back muscles.
  4. Back Lat Spread:

    • Facing away from the judges, expand and display your latissimus dorsi muscles.
  5. Side Chest:

    • Turn your body to the side, bring one leg forward, and raise your arm to display your chest muscles.
  6. Side Triceps:

    • Turn your body to the side, straighten your back arm to display your triceps muscles.
  7. Abs and Thigh:

    • Stand, lean forward, and flex your leg muscles to display your abdominal and thigh muscles.

Free Posing

Competitors take part in a segment where they perform poses of their own choosing, accompanied by specific music. In this segment, competitors select creative poses that best showcase their muscles and physique. This routine typically lasts 60-90 seconds and best highlights the competitor's personal style and muscle development.

Judging Criteria

Judges score competitors based on symmetry, muscle density, muscle definition, and overall aesthetic appearance. In the posing routine, the balance of muscle groups, muscle mass, and muscle detail are of great importance.

Practice and Preparation

To succeed in the posing routine, it is important for competitors to practice posing regularly. Posing practice is done to learn how to best display the muscles and to correctly flex the body during the pose.

Bodybuilding competitions are considered an art of aesthetics and muscle development, and competitors showcase the best version of their hard work and bodies through these posing routines.
